splendid Team Talk
Today we are talking to our colleague Emily Finke. She has been part of the splendid learning team since April 1, 2025, and works – with a very special twist: fully remote. Or almost fully. In the interview, she tells us how she organizes her daily routine, what she appreciates about digital collaboration, and why personal interaction is still important.
Emily, how did you end up working remotely?
I come from a small town in NRW, and the distance to our office in Rodgau near Frankfurt is simply too far for a daily commute. Working remotely was therefore the most sensible solution – and splendid supported that right away. I became aware of the company through family connections and immediately felt comfortable: A dynamic team, many different personalities, and an inspiring environment.
What are your responsibilities at splendid?
I work as a Communication Designer. My tasks are very diverse – from web design to e-learning content to social media, everything is included. It is exactly this variety that makes the job so exciting for me.
What does a typical workday at home look like for you?
My day starts around 7 a.m. with a short workout and a shower. From 9 a.m. I sit at my desk – sometimes the day starts directly with a weekly meeting. Around noon, I take a small snack break before I continue working in the afternoon until around 5 or 6 p.m.
A fixed routine for me is the daily "Good morning" greeting to my team – it has somehow become established and brings a little team spirit to the day. My favorite tools? Clearly: Canva and Framer. Even if I sometimes need to be reminded in Framer that “50, 20, 50, 20” is important for responsiveness – thanks to my colleague for that. 😄
What are the biggest advantages – and challenges – of remote work for you?
I love the flexibility and that I can shape my workflow myself. At the same time, it requires discipline – especially when it comes to not getting distracted. Since my studies were distance learning, I am already used to this rhythm.
Team communication takes place via Microsoft Teams. Although remote work is still quite new for splendid learning, the exchange is going really well. I am a communicative person – feedback and personal contact are important to me. That is why we see each other in the team several times a day in video calls or while chatting. You are actually in constant exchange.
And you are not completely remote, are you?
That's right! Once a month, I am on-site in the office for a week. This strengthens personal contact – and sometimes it is simply nicer to work together on projects rather than just over the screen. For us, it's a good mix: Remote, but with room for true togetherness.
What motivates you in your work?
Clearly: the team, the creative projects, and the opportunity to develop myself further. I am currently allowed to take a training course in graphic design, which means a lot to me personally. And although we often use the same tools, every project is different – that motivates me precisely.
Your conclusion?
I can only advise everyone – whether private individual or company – to try out remote work! It works wonderfully for me, and splendid learning has shown me that digital collaboration can be creative, human, and effective at the same time.
Do you want to work remotely at splendid or set up your team in a hybrid way?
